Takuji Kubo
Takuji Kubo was born October 1, 1948 in Ehime, Japan. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master of Fine Arts from Tama University in Tokyo, where he studied with Tetsuro Komai. He pursued further studies at Morley College, the Print Workshop and the Prints and Drawings Room of the British Museum, all in London. Kubo works in painting, watercolor, etching and engraving, and he has taught printmaking for most of the last 20 years. He presently is an instructor of printmaking at the Tama Community College of Fine Arts in Tokyo. His work has been featured in many solo exhibitions in the United States, England, Thailand and Japan. His works are in the permanent collection of Tama University Art Museum in Japan, the Library of Congress in Washington, DC, the Smithsonian Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery in Washington DC, the Oriental Collection of the British Museum in London and the New York Public Library.
Each Takuji Kubo engraving reflects months of intense work. By looking through a magnifying glass one can see the thousands of thin lines that weave together to form his images. The engraving process allows Takuji to fully explore the surfaces of his imagery and convey precise detail. By carefully controlling his lines he creates subtle shifts between light and dark that give his prints a distinct richness and depth.
We offer an extensive collection of prints by Takuji Kubo beyond those exhibited below. Please contact the Gallery to inquire about works available.
