Collection: Ann Aspinwall

Ann Aspinwall (born 1976 in New York) received her MA in art history from the University of St Andrews in Scotland in 1998, and studied printmaking at studios in Scotland and Italy. She went on to work as a print specialist at the New York Public Library and then as a master printer at Pace Editions in New York. In 2012 Aspinwall and Knut Willich founded Aspinwall Editions, a fine art print publisher and studio in New York. In 2021 they moved their studio to Hudson, NY.

About her work, Aspinwall writes, “I find the vastness of limitless space exhilarating. When I stand alone beneath an unobstructed night sky or before an expansive seascape, I am permeated by a deep feeling of reverence and quietude. In an urban environment, large stretches of pavements are a haven for my senses. I am captivated by the individuality of each component and the rhythmic cohesion of the surface as a whole. In my works, the absence of horizon or hierarchy of elements induces the viewer to explore sensuous details at length and to perceive a tangible sense of space, which seemingly extends beyond the borders.”

Aspinwall’s work is in the permanent collections of the British Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the New York Public Library, Yale University Art Gallery, and the Smith College Museum of Art.Assisted on the exhibition and catalogue Venetian Prints and Books in the Age of Tiepolo, Department of Drawings and Prints, New York: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1997
