Collection: DeAnn L Prosia
Born in Chicago, Illinois, DeAnn received her education at Northern Illinois University and the Art Institute of Chicago.
DeAnn’s work is very detail oriented as evidenced by the tight-knit lines of her etchings which at first glance appear to be aquatint. Her etchings take between 20 and a few hundred hours to complete depending on size.
In 1995, DeAnn moved to Connecticut where she became a member of the Silvermine Art Guild and the Society of American Graphic Artists (SAGA). Since 2021 she serves as the President of SAGA.
In January 2007, DeAnn moved to Mainz, Germany where she lived until October, 2009. During that time she studied the history of the art in the area (the Gutenberg Museum, where the first printing press resides, was in the town she lived in) and experimented with other media: watercolor and colored etchings. While there she had two one person shows, one with her etchings and the other with her watercolors.
Her work is included in the collections of The New York Public Library Print Collection, New York, NY and The New York Historical Society Museum and Library, New York, NY, Syracuse University Art Collection, Syracuse, NY, as well as The Rockwell Museum, Corning, NY and The Jundt Museum at Gonzaga University, Spokane, WA.
She has won over 100 awards for her work. Awards include The Cultural Steward Purchase Award which included her work, “Court Street Diner” into the Collection of Arkansas State University; The Distinguished Achievement Award from the American Women Artist organization; Best in Show, the Anna Hyatt Huntington Horse’s Head Award and the Gold Medal of Honor from the Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club; Audubon Artists Silver Medal of Honor; Speedball Purchase Award, given by juror Richard Estes at the SAGA Annual Exhibition which included her work, “5 Pointz” into the Permanent Collection of The Newark Public Library Special Collections; American Women Artist Purchase Award which included her work, “Under the Elevated” into the Permanent Collection of the The Rockwell Museum, NY among other purchase awards and accolades.

Artist’s Statement
I have always been fascinated how, throughout history, societies have created structural and interesting architectural forms and buildings that fill the needs of people and their everyday lives. I create my etchings by building up layers of tight-knit lines to create tone that are sometimes mistaken for aquatint. My subject matter, mostly New York locations, are a good match for my crosshatching and fine details as my line work is architectural in itself.
Artistic Media
Line Etching, a form of art practiced as early as the fifteenth century, but popularized in the seventeenth century by mostly Dutch artists, such as Rembrandt. The process entails coating a copper plate with a thin layer of acid resistant ground and drawing upon it with an etching needle. The plate is immersed in an acid bath, forming grooves where the copper is exposed. The plate is then stripped of the ground, ink is worked into the grooves and an edition is printed. DeAnn inks and hand-pulls her own prints.
